How was your fourth of july? Mine was eventful.
So my friend Gonzo came over to the new house on friday. Jenny and I want to replace this bay window with a french door. We'd gotten the permit, but were going to wait a while to do the work.

Gonzo and I start looking at it, he mentions its just a few screws to pull the wood frame, why dont we see what we're up against for when we want to do the work, hey, look its even easier than you think to blow this window out....

Next thing you know, we have the crow bar out and are wailing away at the room with a sledge hammer. He and I pulled all the 70's wood paneling in the rec room, knocked the window out, and demolished some crappy old closets. Now I have a hole in the wall and a pile of scrap the size of a car in my back yard. The room is down to bare studs.

Then gonzo left.

It was great having the help demo'ing the room. But now what? I called my contractor friend. He came over after work. First thing out of Shanan's mouth was :
"hey, do you watch those home improvement shows? And theres the guy who gets in over his head remodeling?"
I said "Oh totally. I'd hate to end up like that guy."
Shanan: "Well, its fourth of july weekend, you have an 8 foot by 8 foot hole in your exterior wall, and you have no idea whats next. You're totally 'THAT GUY'."

After basically laughing in my face, he went on to lend me a jack hammer to clear the sill, told me how to drill and set anchor bolts for the wall, and what type of sheet rock to buy.

I hired a contractor to help install the french doors, but he got arrested for drunk driving and never showed up. At least someone else was getting some serious drinking done instead of working all weekend.

My friend paulie helped me get the french doors on saturday, and
I found some guys who came over on sunday and installed the french doors.

Whew.

My friends are up to some interesting things this week.

First off, let me tell you that Braden has totally rocked in teaching me to perform live with Ableton. Thanks to him, I made the transition from cd's to my laptop quickly and easily.
